Beechcroft Developments is a leading developer of luxury retirement homes and creates character properties in attractive UK villages. Its Bemerton Farm development features the 19th century buildings of a former model farm, including a circular dovecote originally built for the Russian Dowager Countess of Pembroke.
The project called for the sensitive conversion of the derelict farm house and coach house into five properties.
Beechcroft's quantity surveyor, who had worked with Beard's site manager on a previous project, recommended Beard for this work.
The negotiated contract included the building of a two-storey extension, several conservatories and a timber-clad garage block.
The Beard team was also responsible for all stonework and roof repairs, new staircases and internal walls, all mechanical and electrical installation work, and landscaping to establish paths, lawns and flowerbeds.
Challenges and solutions
The buildings had to be modernised without losing their 19th century character. Beard worked closely with the design team to ensure high quality workmanship throughout the project. We commissioned a stone mason and a specialist stonework cleaning company.
The Beard team trained with the Bat Conservation Society so that we could handle and successfully relocate a family of bats found on the site.
