Case Study - Cox Green Community & Leisure Centre
New £1.3 million community sports complex provides improved leisure facilities for students and residents.
Constructed in 32 weeks, this new two storey £1.3 million sports complex provides improved leisure and changing facilities for school pupils and the wider community of Cox Green, near Maidenhead, Berkshire.
The contemporary building is constructed in steel and concrete and incorporates a striking curved roofline. External materials include traditional brickwork combined with timber and aluminium cladding and areas of full height glazing.
New facilities include a 42-station fitness suite, a multi-purpose dance studio/media capture room, plus changing rooms and showers. Facilities are also provided for the severely physically disabled and for officials and referees using nearby sports pitches.
Challenges & Solutions
The building lies at the heart of the Cox Green School campus, on a land locked site, with access through the school. Beard needed to develop detailed traffic management plans and a careful site setup to minimize the impact of construction on school activities.
Safety was an ongoing factor throughout the building programme. Timing deliveries carefully helped to avoid busy school drop off and pick up times and all construction traffic was banked up and then walked into the site to ensure safe vehicle movements.
"Beard were great to work with, they completed the job in just 32 weeks and the team worked well with the school to co-ordinate deliveries and ensure safety for all. ”
