Elderly and Special Care

Working with organisations delivering housing and/or care to the elderly, Beard has delivered many new build and refurbishment projects.

Beard has also teamed up with Canadian timber frame company DAC International Inc to offer care home customers the opportunity to create eco-friendly and energy efficient buildings that comply with stringent 'Part L' building regulations.

Organisations that want to take a managed approach to protecting and developing their existing buildings can also look to Beard. We provide an on-going repair and maintenance service. Our directly employed and fully qualified workforce provides continuity and consistently high standards of workmanship.

We have extensive experience of managing sites close to occupied premises, and always strive to minimise the impact of building works on our customer's day-to-day operations.

An example of a recent project in this area was for Fosseway Housing Association. The project involved an extension to and modernisation of a residential care home for young adults with learning difficulties, requiring specialist disabled equipment and furnishings.

Beard extended a 1970's bungalow by adding a new single storey extension to meet the safety and compliance requirements for a home for young adults with special physical needs. The six bedrooms, two assisted bathrooms, en-suite shower room, kitchen, living room, dining area and laundry additions meet the latest disabled access requirements, making the house easier and more enjoyable to live in for the residents.

Employing a number of specialist sub-contractors, the team planned and co-ordinated access to allow specialists to install hydraulic baths which fill and empty automatically and hoists in the bedrooms and bathrooms to help with mobility, all specially designed for disabled children.

“We were delighted with the quality of their work and by the very positive and effective communication which existed between the key players involved.  Indeed, the willingness of the Beard management team to go that little bit further to ensure that issues were quickly resolved played an important part in the success of the project.”
