New two storey extension opens at King Edward's Junior School, Bath

A construction team lead by Site Manager Richard Summers of Beard Swindon has completed a new two-storey extension at King Edward’s School in Bath, providing additional facilities for Design and Technology and ICT classes in time for the September term.

Beard handed over the extension on time and in budget following a 26-week programme of work. The extension, which links directly to the existing school buildings, includes two new classrooms with toilets and cloakrooms on the ground floor with a lift up to a first floor providing IT and Design and Technology rooms, with stores and staff areas.

Minimising disruption to the school day was a key requirement for the team during the project. With shared access, the team was careful to restrict construction site traffic movements.  The team built a cooperative working relationship with school staff from the outset and ensured daily interaction to schedule potentially disruptive work and this ensured that learning was unaffected.

Jane Rowell, Bursar for King Edward’s School, said: “Having successfully completed a £2.85 million Laboratories & Classrooms building for us in 2008, we felt very confident in re-appointing Beard to undertake this project. The resulting extension and facilities is a significant enhancement to our already popular and successful Junior School.”
