It’s not the winning, but the taking part that counts!
Racing on rage buggies and being instructed on how to shoot by ‘Ray the Clay’ was only part of the fun at Beard’s multi-activity day.
Janet Betts from Keble College parked a hovercraft with expert agility; David Anderson from Ridge hit the bull's-eye; Alan Berman and Wayne McLennan proved they were a crack shots; Simon Cash from Claris Consulting went off track in a rage buggy; and Steve Colmer Beard Quantity Surveyor was handicapped by the quad bikes, because they did not go fast enough!
These are just a few of the customers, consultants and staff who joined in the fun organised by Beard Business Development Manager, Fay Connelly, who after nearly losing her balance during the clay pigeon shooting, said: “The earth moved for her.”
John Youle, Construction Manger and leader of the winning team and said:
“This was a great opportunity to celebrate the relationships we have built with our customers and consultants and thank them by having some fun. In an industry where we all work hard, it was good to take some time out. There was a good mix of fun and friendly competition between the teams, and I think everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
Charles Webster from Oxford Architects, who got off to a good start in the archery and clay pigeon shooting said:
“Thank you for a very memorable day. It was great to try out new things in good company. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I’m sure all the other guests did as well.“
Teams spent the morning practising each activity before the contest began in the afternoon. Chris Bates was disappointed that he had to leave early and said:
"Just a quick note to say a big thank you for inviting me to your multi-activity day on Wednesday. As I was driving there I thought to myself: what am I doing going to a ‘young persons day’!
Clearly I am not as geriatric as I thought and thoroughly enjoyed trying all the events. However I don’t think that I shall not be ordering my hovercraft just yet!
I am sorry that I had to leave before the competition in the afternoon, but perhaps that was a good thing for everyone as I would have been expected to shine during the clay pigeon shooting after my morning fluke shots.
A very big thank you for all concerned."
