Four construction projects shortlisted for Oxford Preservation Trust annual awards

Conservation and improvement works for historic and listed buildings continue to keep Beard busy. The Oxford team are particularly pleased that four recent projects have been shortlisted for the prestigious Oxford Preservation Trust annual awards.

The nominations cover three projects for the University of Oxford including stonework cleaning and repairs to the Grade II listed Examination Schools; important renovation works to the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, including work on the cupola; and refurbishment works at the Sheldonian Theatre which also involved external re-lighting of the building and the installation of an improved sound system.

The fourth nomination is for the construction of the £8.5 million neo classical style Pipe Partridge building at Lady Margaret Hall. Built over three storeys this provides impressive new accommodation for the college and blends traditional brick, stone and lime mortar to blend in with surrounding structures.

All four projects contribute to the conservation and improvement of the built or natural environment of Oxford and demonstrate Beard’s experience in dealing with both occupied and confined city centre sites where collaboration is as important as construction skills.

The Oxford Preservation Trust will be announcing the winners of the annual awards on 3rd November 2011. For more information visit: http://www.oxfordpreservation.org.uk/planning/awards.php
