Achieving more at Ruskin College A project at Ruskin College in Oxford to improve student facilities could have foundered when funding from the Learning and Skills Council collapsed. By working with the college and their consultants to consider what was actually necessary and affordable, a revised scheme was developed which increased the refurbishment element of the project. By rescuing a mothballed building and another that was to be demolished, and advising on other more affordable options, the original objectives will be achieved but at lower cost. Very importantly, this has released funding for a second phase of works that may not otherwise have been possible. Ruskin College is a ‘second chance’ adult residential college that specialises in providing ‘return to learning’ opportunities for adults who not only want to develop themselves, but also want to put something back into society. www.ruskin.ac.uk “We are delighted that Beard has won the tender to undertake Phase 1 of our extensive redevelopment project. Beard understands how important this project is to a state-of-the-art environment in which to study.” Professor Audrey Mullender, Principal, Ruskin College
