Project: Refurbishment of lecture theatres following flooding, RMCS Shrivenham “Beard’s onsite management was excellent. They had a ‘can-do’ attitude, trying to find solutions to problems instead of pointing out problems. They took it forwards as quickly as they could. There was very nearly another flood on site and the team went over and above their remit in preventing it.” Mark Hagreen, Steve Hamlin,

Supply Chain Our reputation for quality and delivery excellence depends in part on the effectiveness, efficiency and commitment of our supply chain. Strong relationships and cooperation up and down the supply chain are crucial to this and we succeed in developing long term partnerships with key suppliers and sub-contractors through the Beard Alliance – a formal network of suppliers committed to optimising customer service, safety, efficiency, quality and value. The Beard Alliance provides a forum for sharing best practise, helps to encourage better team working, stronger integration and best value – all crucial to delivering the value for money, high quality and consistent performance that our customers are looking for. At the same time healthy competition in our supply chain helps to ensure optimum value is achieved. Quality Partners Partners are selected carefully following set qualification criteria based on our requirements and audited industry standards. We examine track record and experience, financial stability, number of staff and geographical coverage, as well as health and safety procedures, accident records, environmental standards and quality policies. Sub-contractors are required to update the information annually. To minimise risk we re-assess a sub-contractors’ health and safety procedures prior to commissioning work and regular ‘tool box talks’ are used to reinforce important health and safety information and impart the latest changes, as a project proceeds. Contractor Performance This is monitored rigorously. Key performance indicators are used to assess areas such as pre-site cooperation, adherence to programme, the quality of labour and work, site supervision, safety record and defects clearance. To ensure we are confident of offering our customers the best service, we expect all sub-contractors to satisfy a minimum performance benchmark. The resulting information is reviewed with each sub-contractor. This captured data helps our project teams make more informed sub-contractor selections and importantly helps our partners understand where they need to improve and develop.
